Michael Maguire must have been left wondering how many mirrors he smashed or black cats he ran over recently during a rotten night at AAMI Park, which continued to haunt Brisbane after being their graveyard for the past eight years.
The Broncos suffered a massive double injury blow in the first half with Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam injured during the same play, while the visitors attempted to end a horror losing run down in Melbourne.
And to add to the unfolding disaster, Selwyn Cobbo later joined the duo on the sidelines in what turned out to be a costly 22-2 loss.

Catastrophe for the Broncos as Selwyn Cobbo, Ezra Mam and Adam Reynolds injured
Maguire's side started impressively and inched their way in front via a penalty before they soon looked to extend their lead.
Mam attempted to loop a pass over to Deine Mariner in the red zone, but Xavier Coates picked it off. The five-eighth hurled himself at the winger's legs but came off second best.
It was then Reynolds' turn to be stopped dead in his tracks as he chased down Coates. The veteran pulled up in agony inside Melbourne's half as a trail of destruction was left behind the Storm flyer.
The little general immediately trudged off the field and headed down the tunnel.
Yet while Reynolds was clutching at his hamstring, Selwyn Cobbo completed a remarkable chase to stop the Storm winger from scoring in the corner.
However, the heroics of the try-saver was lost in the moment as the true impact of the play quickly became apparent.
As the Bunker reviewed Coates’ put down, attention turned to Mam who had also been left stricken on the turf.
"Their No.6 and their No.7 have been wounded in the one play - this is incredible!" Andrew Voss exclaimed on Fox League. "Have you ever seen this ever? Ever!?
"Twenty minutes gone and it's an absolute sensation here and not of a good kind for Brisbane."
The shocking sequence of events saw the Broncos go from being on the attack and having a chance of scoring to losing both of their playmakers within 10 seconds.
As a result of the double injury blow, Kotoni Staggs was shifted into the halves alongside Ben Hunt, who switched out of hooker.
"Have you ever seen a side lose both of their halves in the same play?" Voss queried.
"To lose both your No.6 and your No.7 is unbelievable," Greg Alexander said.
"Surely it’s never happened before in history," Voss interjected.
Unfortunately, things then threatened to get even worse for the Broncos as Cobbo appeared to pick up an ankle injury just as Tyran Wishart scored the opening try of the night.
The winger was attended to by the trainers but actually managed to re-join the action in a welcome piece of good news for the visitors, who found themselves 12-2 down at the break.
However, Cobbo's luck ran out in the second stanza as he did eventually join his two star teammates on the bench. He was forced from the field while also clutching at the back of his leg.
"It can’t be another hamstring, can it?" Alexander said in disbelief. "What is happening?"
Michael Maguire reacts to triple injury blow
Maguire admitted he had been left stunned by the triple injury blow to his players, yet remained steadfast in his belief that the Broncos were a genuine premiership threat due to the side's unwavering spirit.
"I just spoke to the three of them and now they'll go and get scans and go through the process to see the severity of them," the coach said post-match.
"They are all hamstrings, which is quite strange because the boys are pretty measured about what they do with the players throughout the week.
"There is no real evidence for why it might have happened, but we'll look into it. It's a bit of a shame but I've got to say, I was really proud of the way the players performed. The players fought right until the death.
"It was crazy, to be honest," Maguire said when he was asked how he initially reacted to the double injury blow up in the box.
"I've never been part of a game where you lose your two playmakers and the chopping and changing of players.
"I've never experienced that, but to their credit I thought they handled it really well."
