The 24-year-old won gold at the London Olympic Games in 2012 and followed that up with victory at the worlds in Moscow last year, but he will not be complete a treble in Scotland.

The Ugandan athlete intends to focus on the London Marathon in April before giving his body a rest after a tough 2013.

"Last year, I did so many marathons," Kiprotich told BBC Africa. "My body is a bit down and I need to recover.

"To become a Commonwealth champion is not easy. It is a big competition.

"But it is good for me to give a chance to upcoming Ugandan athletes and if they win medals I'll be very happy.

"Once I finish in London I will know where I am heading to next, there are so many people wanting me to compete but I have to treat my body well."

Kiprotich finished sixth in last year's London marathon and will be attempting to win the prestigious race for the first time in April.
