Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein will be sidelined for between three to four weeks after sustaining an unspecified upper-body injury, the NHL team announced on Thursday.

Although the Rangers did not reveal the nature of the injury, Newsday reported that it could possibly be a fracture.

Klein likely won't return before the regular season ends but is expected to be back in action for the play-offs.

Klein suffered the injury with 19 seconds remaining in the Rangers' 3-1 road win on Wednesday when he was hit in the left arm by a shot taken by Washington Capitals' captain Alex Ovechkin.

The 30-year-old underwent X-rays and returned to New York on Thursday to be further evaluated by a team physician.

Klein was acquired from the Nashville Predators for defenseman Michael Del Zotto during the 2013-14 season.

The 11-year veteran has career highs of nine goals and 26 points in 65 games this season while averaging 18:29 of ice time per game. He has also logged 17 assists, which matches his previous career best and 115 blocked shots.

The Rangers will visit the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday before returning to New York to host the Florida Panthers on Sunday.
