The 21-year-old took just 70 minutes to destroy the 123rd-ranked Dutchman 6-3 6-2 6-1.

Kyrgios only committed 13 unforced errors, while hitting 11 aces and 35 winners.

"You don’t really see too many of those matches go that quick, but I thought he was really aggressive from the get-go," Kyrgios said.

"Every forehand he had he was trying to really pull the trigger. I didn’t feel he felt comfortable extending the rallies.

"I thought there was going to be a lot more rallies today (but) I served well and I returned well. I just played good tactical tennis."

Kyrgios will now play ninth-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the third round.

In other Australian news, Sam Stosur also progressed with a 6-3 6-4 win over China's Shuai Zhang while wildcard Jordan Thompson lost an epic five-setter 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 12-10 to Croatia's Ivo Karlovic.
