Last year's finalists demolished Adelaide 122-88, setting a new NBL points record as they fired a major warning shot to their rivals this season.

The 122-point tally is the most by any team in the competition's history since games were cut down to 40-minutes.

The Hawks were led by imports Rotnei Clarke and Marvelle Harris who scored 23 and 21 points respectively.

Brisbane and New Zealand also won their opening games this season.
