Terrell Williams health update: How Patriots DC suffered scare during New England preseason practice image

Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams is entering his first season with the team, but he experienced a medical scare on Monday.

Williams had to leave practice early after suffering a scare during the Patriots' training camp practice. It is not the first time that Williams has had medical issues, as he had to take a leave of absence from the team earlier this year to address his health.

The defensive coordinator returned before training camp and was participating in his defensive coordinator responsibilities as normal. Here's the latest on Williams' health status.

Terrell Williams health update

During practice on Monday, Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams appeared to collapse and needed medical attention. The medical staff brought out a stretcher for him, but he was able to sit up in front of the cart.

Williams left the practice field for further evaluation with inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr taking over as defensive playcaller in practice. After practice, the Patriots announced that Williams was being treated for dehydration and he was going to be ok.

Williams joined the Patriots after spending last year on the Lions' coaching staff. He also worked with Titans from 2018 to 2023, when Mike Vrabel was the head coach, and Vrabel chose to add him to his New England staff this year.

Terrell Williams health history

Williams was away from the team earlier in the offseason as he dealt with an undisclosed medical issue. He addressed the absence with the media in May, which included eating better and working out.

"I think a lot of times, when there are things you can prevent, and you don't prevent them, that's just not being smart. That’s what I've done the last couple of years, even longer," he said. "I've ignored doctors. I've ignored everyone and just kind of lived my life. While it was fun, I realize you have to take care of yourself. That's what I’m doing."

During those media sessions, Williams said he was happy with his progress.

"Where I am now, my mind is clear," he added. "I'm moving around. I'm happy. Everything is good. I'm just looking forward to getting back to Foxborough and seeing everybody in person."
