Coaching rumors: Texas DC Vance Bedford up for Colorado State job image

Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford could soon land a head coaching job.

The longtime assistant is among seven names Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde listed via Twitter as candidates for the Colorado State job.

CSU is currently searching for a replacement for Jim McElwain, who led the team to a 10-2 record before taking the Florida job.

Bedford followed Charlie Strong to Texas after serving as his defensive coordinator at Louisville. Texas went 6-6 in the regular season, allowing 23.2 points per game. It will finish the season against Arkansas in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.

A former Texas defensive back, Bedford has never served as a college head coach. He does, however, have plenty of experience as an assistant.

Bedford was defensive backs coach under Urban Meyer (Florida), Lloyd Carr (Michigan) and Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State).
