Southern Mississippi's men's basketball season took another bad turn Thursday night.

The Golden Eagles played the final 48 seconds of their 73-71 overtime loss to Florida International with just four players. They began the game with just seven players in uniform, and three fouled out.

To their credit, those four almost forced a second overtime, but a potential tying shot by Chip Armelin spun out as time expired.

"Can't say that I have (drawn up a play for four players)," USM coach Doc Sadler told reporters afterward, according to the The Sun Herald.

USM (6-17, 1-11 Conference USA) has long been out of postseason consideration this season; in addition to the poor record, the university self-imposed a tournament ban in light of an NCAA investigation. Now the team has to deal with this four-players business for a day or two.

Just six more games to go, guys.
