Linc Darner has accomplished about all he can as a Division II coach; now it's time to take it up a notch.

Green Bay announced Tuesday it has hired Darner to replace Brian Wardle, who left last month to take the Bradley job.

Darner is coming off a nine-year run at the helm of the Florida Southern program in which he went 218-72. He was the Division II National Coach of the Year this season after leading the Moccasins to a 36-1 season capped by a national championship.

He previously led a St. Joseph's College (Ind.) program that had one winning season in the eight before his arrival to a 74-45 record.

The Indiana native, who played college ball at Purdue, has also been an assistant coach at Ashland (1998-2002), Lincoln Memorial (1997-98) and Murray State (1995-97).

Darner takes over a Phoenix team that went 24-9 this season, losing to Illinois State in the opening round of the NIT.
