'As good as it's ever been': Josh Giddey ready for next generation of Boomers basketball image

It's a new era of Boomers basketball.

Following last year's Olympic campaign, Australian head coach Brian Goorjian stepped away from the team, and after an extensive search his successor was named - Adam Caporn.

With the NBA assistant head coach at the helm, and a host of current and upcoming top-level talent filtering through, star guard Josh Giddey claims that this next generation of Aussie hoops could be the best yet.

After their historic medal at the Tokyo Olympics, the Boomers endured a tough four-year window, with early exits at both the 2023 FIBA World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.

But with Caporn now in charge of a squad featuring names like Giddey and 2025 Most Improved Player Dyson Daniels, the Chicago Bulls guard believes that now is the time for the Boomers to truly become an international contender.

"I think the future of Australian basketball is as good as it's ever been, and you see that here tonight," Giddey said while being interviewed during the Boomers Trans-Tasman clash against the Tall Blacks Wednesday.

"With the guys in the NBA, the guys we’ve got coming out of the NBL, younger guys in the NBA Academy, the AIS, the program is in good hands.

"There’s a great, great core coming through, and hopefully we can keep this program in good stead for the next 10-15 years."

The Boomers next chance to contend for a major medal will be at the 2027 FIBA World Cup, where Caporn's men can hopefully return to their place as a global basketball power.
