Ex-Brisbane Broncos forward Jamil Hopoate has been arrested and charged with two alleged offences following a police chase in Sydney on Tuesday.

According to News Corp Australia, Hopoate was charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of cocaine and using a vehicle to avoid apprehension.

He is scheduled to appear in Central Local Court on Wednesday.

Police will allege Hopoate entered a truck containing a quantity of cocaine and later led them on a pursuit, both in a vehicle and on foot before he was apprehended.

Jamil is the son of controversial ex-Australia winger John Hopoate and the brother of Canterbury veteran Will and Raiders young gun Albert.

The 26-year-old, who in 2014 was sentenced to 12-months in prison over a vicious assault outside a Sydney pub, made his NRL debut for the Broncos in 2020.

He played 12 games but was not offered a new deal for this season.

Hopoate’s hopes of finding a new club ended when he was charged with assaulting his partner outside a venue in Port Macquarie in December.

He pled guilty to two charges of common assault in relation to the incident in February, effectively ending his NRL career.
