Formula 1 returned to the foot of the Styrian mountains for the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix.

Spielberg, in south-eastern Austria, is home to the 4.318 km-long Red Bull Ring (formerly known as A1-Ring and Österreichring).

The circuit hosted the Austrian Grand Prix from 1970 until 1987, and from 1997 until 2003. In 2014, under new Red Bull ownership, the race returned to the Formula 1 calendar.

The 2018 event marked the second of three consecutive grands prix - the first-ever triple-header of races in Formula 1 history.

2018 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX FORM GUIDE

Lewis Hamilton's dominant win in France helped the four-time world champion back into the lead of the driver standings, with previous standings leader Sebastian Vettel finishing fifth after enduring an incident-plagued race at Circuit Paul Ricard.

Hamilton (Azerbaijan, Spain and France) and Vettel (Australia, Bahrain and Canada) have won three races each in 2018 - the only other winner this season prior to Austria was Daniel Ricciardo, who won in China and Monaco.

The Austrian Grand Prix's return in 2014 coincided with Mercedes' newfound dominance in the 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 era, and with long straights and sweeping corners, it comes as no surprise that the SIlver Arrows have been the team to beat at the Red Bull Ring.

However, Ferrari have proven their 2018 car is competitive everywhere, while Red Bull have made significant inroads.

2018 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX: TYRE COMPOUNDS

Pirelli supplied the same tyre nomination as France, with the purple-walled ultrasoft  as the softest available compound available, with the red-walled supersoft sitting in the middle and the yellow-walled  soft  the hardest.

2018 AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX: RACE RESULT

Max Verstappen took full advantage of his rivals' dramas to win the Austrian Grand Prix.

Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel finished close behind the Red Bull man, who became the first driver for the team to win at the Red Bull Ring.

It was a sour day for Verstappen's teammate Daniel Ricciardo, as well as Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and race pole-sitter Valtteri Bottas, all suffering race retirements.
