Jacob deGrom injury update: Mets ace cleared to make next start image

Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom suffered no structural damage in his right elbow and has been cleared to make his next start, the Mets announced Thursday.

DeGrom exited his start against the Braves on Wednesday after just four innings with a hyperextended right elbow.

He struck out six while allowing no runs and two hits in his four innings of work. He threw just 46 pitches.

The 29-year-old starting pitcher hurt himself on a swing and miss during an at-bat in the third inning, according to a report from the Athletic.

He told the coaching staff he could continue pitching and returned to the mound in the fourth. deGrom then removed himself from the game one inning later, the Athletic’s report says.

DeGrom underwent an MRI following Wednesday’s game that revealed no significant damage.

He is expected to make his next start Monday but will be monitored for soreness or other symptoms from the injury, according to the Mets statement.

DeGrom has thrown 18 1/3 straight scoreless innings for the Mets.

He has a 3-0 record with a 1.87 ERA in 2018.

The Mets currently hold a 17-11 record and have dropped three of their last four games.
