Captaincy is clearly suiting Cronulla prop Andrew Fifita well, with the barnstorming forward racking up 11 Dally M points in the last four rounds.

With Cronulla missing Paul Gallen, Scott Sorenson, Wade Graham, Josh Dugan, Luke Lewis and Jayson Bukuya for the 24-16 win over Canberra, Fifita ran for 175 metres and made 50 tackles in an 80-minute classic.

Fifita scored the three points from judge Andrew Johns, with Valentine Holmes and James Segeyaro, who combined to seal the win for the Sharks with a 79th minute try, nabbing the remaining points.

Fifita now sits one point clear at the top of the table, with Newcastle’s Kalyn Ponga earning one point out of the Knights’ 29-18 loss to Penrith to sit in outright second.

James Maloney was the difference for the Panthers, earning the three points from Dally M judge Steve Roach, with teammate Tyrone Peachey getting the two points.

Maloney now sits in equal third position, equal on 13 points with Wests Tigers playmaker Luke Brooks, who steered the joint venture to a win in front of a rowdy Leichhardt Oval crowd, scoring the full three Dally M points from Brett Finch.

Benji Marshall and Chris Lawrence shared the remaining points, with no North Queensland Cowboys player deemed good enough for a point.
