Dally M: Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce hits the lead, but injury opens door to rivals image

It was a bittersweet weekend for Newcastle halfback Mitchell Pearce - he helped the Knights to a win over Wests Tigers in Tamworth, with his performance vaulting him to the top of the Dally M leaderboard.

However, he was dealt a monstrous blow with a serious pectoral injury set to sideline him for several months.

Match judge Alan Tongue handed Pearce the three points from Newcastle's win over the Tigers, with the Knights playmaker taking the lead from Luke Brooks.

Newcastle fullback Kalyn Ponga moved back into the top three after he was handed two votes.

Jai Arrow put in another solid performance for the Titans in their loss to the Cowboys, and jumped to fourth on the overall leaderboard.

Pearce's injury has opened the door for Brooks to jump back into the lead when the Tigers face the Eels to wrap up the eighth week of the competition on Sunday April 29.

However, Parramatta's drought-breaking win against the Sea Eagles saw Mitch Moses put in a match-winning display to throw his hand in the ring with a whopping 17 regular season games still to come.

Dragons duo Gareth Widdop and Jack de Belin are tied for fifth on eight points, along with Warriors fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. All three players will be in action on Anzac Day in their clubs' respective clashes against the Roosters and Storm on Wednesday.
