Australian Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan has been temporarily sidelined by his Alpine F1 Team for the coming five races.
This decision follows a challenging start to the season, during which Doohan failed to score points in the first six races, with the Miami Grand Prix marking his last race for this season — for now.
Doohan was promoted to a full-time seat this year after two seasons on the sidelines supporting the team.

Alpine's statement and decision
Alpine issued a statement outlining the reasoning behind the mid-season switch:
"We remain committed to Jack's development and continue to believe in his potential. However, given the challenges faced in the early part of the season, we’ve opted to evaluate alternative options while Jack continues his work with the team in a reserve capacity."
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, 21, is set to replace Doohan for the next five races in Imola, Monaco, Spain, Canada, and Austria.
Where is Doohan now?
Despite this setback, Doohan will remain Alpine's reserve driver until then, a position he held for the previous two seasons.
Doohan's response to Alpine's decision
Doohan has publicly acknowledged being dropped by the team, but still remains positive about his future.
“I am very proud to have achieved my lifelong ambition to be a professional Formula 1 driver and I will forever be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream,” he said in his Alpine Statement.
“Obviously, this latest chapter is a tough one for me to take because, as a professional driver, naturally I want to be racing.
“That said, I appreciate the team’s trust and commitment. We have long-term goals as a team to achieve and I will continue to give my maximum efforts in any way I can to help achieve those.
“For now, I will keep my head down, keep working hard, watch with interest the next five races and keep chasing my own personal goals.”

Doohan's performance before the Alpine decision
In the first six races of the 2025 season, Doohan failed to score any points.
Race | Result |
Australian Grand Prix | Retired (DNF) |
Chinese Grand Prix | 13th place |
Japanese Grand Prix | 15th place |
Bahrain Grand Prix | 14th place |
Saudi Arabian Grand Prix | 17th place |
Miami Grand Prix | Retired (DNF) |
These results left Doohan in 19th place in the driver standings, while his teammate Pierre Gasly secured all seven points for the Alpine team, placing him 12th in the driver standings.
What is next for Doohan?
Colapinto’s performance in the upcoming races may heavily influence Doohan’s future at Alpine. If the Argentine impresses, he could solidify a long-term seat, putting pressure on Doohan’s position within the team.
The next Formula 1 Grand Prix is the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which is set to take place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, from May 16 to May 18, 2025.
