Sydney FC are reportedly "in talks" to sign Thomas Muller.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the A-League Men club are an "outside chance" of securing the Bayern Munich legend’s signature.

It would be a significant move for the Sky Blues, and easily their biggest acquisition since Alessandro Del Piero joined the club in 2012.

Muller is currently a free agent after exiting Bayern this past season.

Reports indicate that a move to Major League Soccer in the United States is his preferred option, but Sydney remains in the hunt.

Even as a marquee player, A-League wages would not match the MLS’ offering.

However, the Sky Blues are likely pitching the lifestyle associated with a move to the NSW capital.

Sydney’s head of player management, Alexander Baumjohann, spent a year contracted with Bayern, and is leading to charge to sign his fellow countryman.

Muller’s former teammate Douglas Costa also notably plies his trade for Sydney FC.

A decision is expected within the next fortnight.

With 756 matches played across seventeen seasons, Müller is Bayern's all-time record appearance holder.

He scored 250 goals and provided 231 assists for the club across all competitions.
