Did the Socceroos win last night? Saudi Arabia vs. Socceroos score, result
The Socceroos concluded their qualifying campaign in pleasing fashion, claiming a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia in Jeddah.
Crucially, the result secured their spot at the 2026 World Cup.
Australia has now qualified for the iconic FIFA men's tournament an impressive six times in a row.
Abdulrahman Alobud opened the scoring for the home side after 19 minutes to keep their slim hopes alive. Salem Aldawsari fed the ball across the byline, leaving the forward with a tap-in.
Then, moments out from half-time, the Socceroos bagged a crucial equaliser. Connor Metcalfe was fed onto goal by Mitch Duke, with the former jamming the ball over Nawaf Alaqidi and into the back of the net.

Australia all but locked in their qualification when Duke struck a few minutes after the interval. Martin Boyle sent in an inch-perfect cross, which the Socceroos striker guided home with a commanding header.

It threatened to get ugly for Saudi Arabia when Ali Majrashi was shown a red card for bringing Boyle down as the last man in the 51st minute, but the decision was overturned by VAR.
The action was limited from there on before the hosts earned a late penalty. Socceroos shot-stopper Mat Ryan – in his 100th national team appearance – made a strong save to his left before the subsequent shot was sprayed wide.
