Manchester United have received a timely break in their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with Tottenham Hotspur deciding not to enter the transfer battle.
This twist clears the path for boss Ruben Amorim to push for his second big signing of the summer.
The Red Devils had been watching Mbeumo for weeks, keeping close tabs on his progress. However, the alarm bells rang when reports linked Tottenham with a potential swoop, especially since Brentford’s manager Thomas Frank is a strong contender to take over at Spurs.
But according to Mail Sport, those fears can now be put to bed. A club source has confirmed that a move for Mbeumo is “highly unlikely,” meaning United may no longer need to look over their shoulder.
Why Man Utd wants to sign Mbeumo?
Mbeumo has been one of Brentford’s standout players since his arrival from Troyes in 2019. The Cameroon international has bagged 70 goals in 242 games, with 42 of them coming in the Premier League.
For a club like United, who found the net only 44 times last season, that's exactly the kind of spark they’ve been missing.

The Red Devils already made a bold opening bid of £55 million ($70m), which Brentford rejected. But with no competition from Spurs, United are expected to return with an improved offer soon.
Amorim is eager to wrap up this deal quickly to give his squad the full preseason to gel.
His first signing, Matheus Cunha, was sealed for £62.5 million. If Mbeumo joins next, it would give United’s front line a much-needed new look.
And with the goal-shy days of last season still fresh, Old Trafford fans may finally see the Red Devils play with some real sting in their attack.
