Manchester United are preparing for a big shift this summer — and it could involve a familiar path.

With club captain Bruno Fernandes reportedly considering a blockbuster move to Saudi side Al-Hilal, the Red Devils have started planning for what comes next.

One of their top targets? Pedro Goncalves. Yes, another Sporting CP playmaker could be heading to Old Trafford, as per reports (via The Mirror).

The 26-year-old had been impressed under manager Ruben Amorim, who now finds himself in charge at United.

Amorim helped turn Goncalves into a dangerous goal-scorer back in Lisbon, and a reunion could be on the cards if Bruno heads for the Middle East.

As per the same reports, Al-Hilal’s offer for Fernandes is apparently massive — around £100 million — and they’ve given him until Friday to decide. If he accepts, United would have the funds to chase Goncalves, who could cost about £70 million.

Amorim looks to rebuild familiar system at Man United

Goncalves scored 14 goals last season despite missing time with injury. The season before, he had 18. He’s played in different roles — attacking midfield and wide — which suits Amorim’s flexible tactics.

It’s no secret that the current United boss values players who know his system. Goncalves fits the bill. And with Sporting also fighting to keep striker Viktor Gyokeres, it could be a busy summer in Lisbon too.

The catch? Sporting get a 10% cut of any profit United make on Bruno’s sale. That means they'd bank over £6 million if he heads to Saudi Arabia. Business is business — even when it’s bittersweet.

For United fans, losing Bruno would sting. He’s been the creative spark during tough times. But bringing in Goncalves might ease the pain — and bring at least some goals back to the midfield.
