Chelsea outcast moves a step closer to sealing Stamford Bridge exit image

With just under two weeks to go for the ongoing summer transfer window to shut, Chelsea still have a number of players that they are looking to offload.

The Blues have earmarked a ‘bomb squad’ which is made up of senior players no longer in the first-team plans, who are training away from the main senior group while they wait for their respective futures to be resolved.

Despite selling a number of players already in the transfer window, there is still plenty of work to be done to trim Enzo Maresca’s squad down to a reasonable size for the rest of the season.

One such player who has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge is Renato Veiga.

The central defender impressed in his natural position while on loan at Juventus in the hope of breaking into Maresca’s first team on his return to Stamford Bridge.

But unfortunately, he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Maresca and looks set to leave the Blues in the ongoing transfer window.

Renato Veiga moves a step closer to Stamford Bridge exit

Despite having joined Chelsea only in July 2024 from Swiss club Basel, the club has already put Veiga for sale.

Reportedly, the versatile player who can play at centre-back or at left back has agreed personal terms with Spanish club Villarreal.

However, there are some difficult transfer negotiations continuing over the fee for a permanent deal.

While Chelsea have reportedly slapped a £34m ($45m) price tag on Veiga, the Spanish club are trying to get a deal done for less than £30m ($40m).

While it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can agree on a fee for the player, from a fan’s perspective, it is sad to see Veiga leave at the moment, especially when Chelsea are crying out for a new centre-back following the injury to Levi Colwill.
