Why La Liga President Javier Tebas could face disqualification after explosive Barcelona row image

La Liga president Javier Tebas is under serious pressure after a complaint accused him of revealing confidential Barcelona financial data and “belittling” both the Catalan club and Real Madrid.

The case could lead to his removal from office if it moves forward.

The head of the Association for Transparency and Democracy in Sport, Miguel Angel Galan, has filed a 50-page complaint against Tebas.

The claims focus on five “very serious violations,” including disclosing private details about Barcelona’s finances without the club’s consent.

The tensions are nothing new. Tebas and Barcelona have clashed over Financial Fair Play rules, public statements, and league policies.

But this latest chapter could be the biggest yet — and it may decide whether Tebas stays in the job.

The row began in April 2025 when La Liga stated Barcelona failed to record €100 million from VIP box sales on time. Barcelona hit back, accusing Tebas of breaching confidentiality. The league later removed its statement.

Galan also alleges Tebas shared financial details with Athletic Club during talks over signing Nico Williams.

In his words (via AS): “I feel compelled to file a complaint in defense of the collective interests of the members of Futbol Club Barcelona and its fans.”

He went further, saying the president’s behavior “must cease immediately” and comparing the situation to past scandals involving Spanish football chiefs who were later disqualified.

The Higher Sports Council will now decide whether to pass the case to the Administrative Sports Tribunal. If it does, Tebas could be banned from his position — a red card of the administrative kind.

For now, the whistle hasn’t blown on his presidency, but the pressure is building fast. Whether this ends in extra time or a straight dismissal will be decided in the coming weeks.
