After a dramatic finish to the T20I series, Australia and South Africa will lock horns in the first ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday in Cairns. 

On Saturday, Australia registered a thrilling two-wicket victory to seal the T20I series 2-1. Glenn Maxwell turned the match on its head with an unbeaten 62 off 36 balls.

The hosts will turn their focus to the three-match ODI series now, which is Australia's first ODI series after the disappointing Champions Trophy semi-final loss against India. 

South Africa, meanwhile, will be aiming to turn things around in the ODI leg. They played their last ODI match against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy semi-final, where they were knocked out after a 50-run defeat.

Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead the side in the absence of Pat Cummins

The hosts have retained the core of the squad that featured in the T20Is against South Africa; however, they have been dealing with a few injury concerns. Mitchell Owen, who was set for his ODI debut, will have to wait as he has been ruled out due to a concussion injury following a blow on his helmet in the 2nd T20I. Matthew Short (side injury) and all-rounder Lance Morris (back) will also miss out with their respective injuries. 

Australia have named Matthew Kuhnemann, pacer Aaron Hardie, and all-rounder Cooper Connolly as their replacements. 

On the bowling front, Josh Hazlewood will spearhead the pace attack, which includes Nathan Ellis and Ben Dwarshuis while Adam Zampa is the lead spinner.

Ryan Rickelton has retained his spot as the wicketkeeper batter, while 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius got his maiden ODI call-up for the series. 

All-rounder Wiaan Mulder returns to the squad and Senuran Muthusamy has been brought in to provide heft to the lower-order.

Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada will remain the first-choice pacers for the series, while off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen received his debut ODI call-up for this series. Keshav Maharaj will return after recovering from his groin injury.
