Shane Warne pounces on shocking Steve Waugh statistic, repeats ‘most selfish’ team-mate claim image

Legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne has jumped all over a damning statistic involving ex-Australia team-mate and longtime sparring partner Steve Waugh.

There is no love lost between the pair of all-time Aussie greats, with Warne previously declaring Waugh the most selfish team-mate he ever played with.

CricInfo’s stats department on Thursday published a piece revealing the former Aussie captain was involved in more run outs than any other player in cricket history.

Waugh played a part in a staggering 104 run outs in 493 international matches in all formats.

On 73 of those occasions Waugh’s batting partner had to head back to the pavilion, while Waugh was the victim 31 times.

A self-described cricket mega fan then went to the trouble of compiling a video highlighting all 73 of Waugh’s ‘victims’.

And Warne couldn't help himself, tweeting to his 3.5 million followers: “Wow! So S Waugh was involved in the most ever run outs in Test cricket (104) and ran his partner out 73 times – is that correct? Mmmmmmmmm.”

Warne temporarily back tracked in a second tweet before delivering another hammer blow to the ‘most selfish’ Waugh with his next keystrokes.

“For the record AGAIN & I’ve said this 1,000 times – I do not hate S Waugh at all,” Warne tweeted.

“FYI – I picked him in my all time best Australian team recently.

“Steve was easily the most selfish cricketer I’ve ever played with and this stat.…….”.
