New South African Test captain Wiaan Mulder was closing in on creating a new world record in Test cricket as he went past the 350-run mark in the second Test against Zimbabwe on Monday, July 7.
He went past Gary Sobers' tally of 365 runs on Day 2 of the match, but decided to abruptly end the journey at 367 runs as he declared South Africa's innings at 626/5.
Mulder missed out on breaking Brian Lara's highest score by 33 runs. The legendary West Indies batter reached 400 runs against England back in 2004.

The Proteas' rising star also broke Hanif Mohammed's record of 337 runs against West Indies, to register the highest individual run in an away Test innings.
