Australia 'not the better side' - Stoneman image

Ok, it might pay to give this bloke ‘the benefit of the doubt’, as they say in cricket.

Mark Stoneman has opened up to Australia’s hostile pace attack all summer during the Ashes - and has copped some brutal bowling, including one where he was stuck in the helmet – but has the heat of the contest got the man they call Rocky?

The gritty English left-hander, clearly flying the flag for his country, has suggested Australia’s dominance and the current three-nil ledger does not reflect the true story of the 2017-2018 Ashes.

"In all honesty, I don’t think they are the better side,” Stoneman said.

Oh, do go on, Rocky.

“It’s pretty devastating really. It’s obviously not ideal going there three-nil down.

“At the same time what better way to bounce back than to perform well in the Boxing Day Test.”

The 30-year-old went for the knock-out blow when he suggested that both teams' bowling attacks were ‘fairly balanced’.

Sounds like someone still believes in Christmas miracles.
