Liverpool’s Ball (22-0-1) fought Rey Vargas to a draw for the WBC title. He followed that performance by beating Raymond Ford for the WBA belt. Ball has since successfully defended the belt twice via TKO.

Facing a hungry contender, Ball believes most of the preparation will come on fight night, when he gets a chance to see what Goodman can do.

"You don’t know what’s going to happen until the bell goes – no one does – and that’s the honest answer," Ball told Boxing News Online.

"You can prepare just enough to have an idea, but then everything can change [on the night]. So you’ve got to be prepared for anything – covering all angles – and that’s what we do."

Goodman (20-0) returns to action after failing to capture a fight against Naoya Inoue due to a cut he suffered while sparring. He won his last fight in May and couldn't say no to this contest.

The Albion Park-born Goodman looks for glory after getting another opportunity at gold.

"I got into this sport to become a world champion, and this is best route to achieve it and that's why I'm taking it on," Goodman told The Ring. "It's a massive opportunity and a lifelong dream for me to become a world champion and August 16 (17), I get to achieve it."
