Rising Australian boxer Kirra Ruston improved to 7-0 with an impressive second-round knockout of the previously undefeated Kartik Kumar.

India's Kumar entered the bout in Cairns with a formidable 9-0 record, complete with eight KOs, but Ruston passed the test with flying colours.

After weathering an early storm in the form of Kartik's powerful jab, Ruston closed the distance and landed a big right hook to put his opponent down.

Kartik attempted to climb to his feet but was robbed of his equilibrium and couldn't continue.

Having only made his professional debut last May, Ruston already has seven stoppage victories on his resume and is fast making a name for himself as one of the country's best prospects.

"It felt like I was just getting started," Ruston said.

"I wanted to see what he had in the first round and he had some pop on his shots.

"I had to stay nice and sharp and eventually saw the right hook and thankfully landed it."

With a host of top local names in and around Ruston's weight, including Conor Wallace, Paulo Aokuso, Callum Peters and Max McIntyre, there's no shortage of potential future opponents for the 27-year-old Perth product.
