The NBL is once again considering the idea of an All-Star Game, ahead of one of the most star-studded seasons in league history.

With over a decade having passed since the last NBL All-Star Game in 2012, CEO David Stevenson has said the time is ripe to resuscitate the format.

However, he emphasised that player buy-in would be crucial if they were to ever bring the event back.

The NBL All-Star Game could be about to return, with the league's top boss saying they were eager to return to the format.

While the league has a packed calendar, Stevenson emphasised the importance of recognising the best talent in the NBL.

"In a perfect world, we’d do an All-Star Game tomorrow," Stevenson said on the show NBL Now.

"It always comes down to scheduling. Where do we fit them in? Obviously, when you’ve got HoopsFest and NBA games and EuroLeague games and now Ignite Cup, there’s no obvious window.

"And clearly the FIBA breaks - we want to be able to support the Boomers or the Opals, and make sure the players can represent their country. So finding a window where we can do it properly, because there are lots of opportunities where we can do it ... but we’ve got to have the best players.

"I think it doesn’t work unless you’ve got the best players playing. And our schedule’s pretty tight at the moment. We’ve just got to find that right window."

A consistent fixture of the league throughout the 90s and 2000s, the game previously featured a Team North vs Team South format, but Stevenson floated the idea of moving to Team Locals vs Team Imports, a concept many have voiced their support of.
