Billy DeLury, a Dodgers employee since the team's Brooklyn days, died Saturday night at 81.

According to the team, DeLury was hired in 1950 as a 17-year-old straight out of high school. He worked everywhere from the laundry room to the mail room, including stints at spring training in Vero Beach.

As he climbed his way through the ranks, he eventually became the team's traveling secretary and held that position for more than 20 years.

“I was privileged to know Bill DeLury for more than 60 years, from the time he was an office boy in Brooklyn and rose to become a most valuable member of the organization as our traveling secretary," Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully said in a statement. "A Dodger from head to toe. A respected baseball man. And a deeply religious husband and father. Anyone and everyone in baseball who knew Bill will mourn his passing and he will be truly missed.”
