Kane Cornes has slammed West Coast Eagles star Harley Reid for sledging Port Adelaide star midfielder Jason Horne-Francis during the Eagles' 26-point loss on Sunday night.

Horne-Francis was sledged by Reid about controversially leaving his first side, which was North Melbourne, after his first year to return to South Australia. The Kangaroos had selected Horne-Francis at pick 1 in the 2021 draft.

The 20-year-old Reid was selected at pick one, and there are reports that he may request a trade home to Victoria from Western Australia.

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes has blasted Reid over the sledging incident, saying Reid would be a hypocrite if he left the Eagles and questioned whether he is a good teammate.

“He can’t leave now. He’s going to have to at least stay for another year, so that’s good news for Eagles fans,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.

“I’ve been saying it since his first year and people smashed me for it. Now the same people that smashed me for it are saying the exactly the same thing. He’s got to get fitter and get more disciplined.”

“He is a selfish footballer at the moment. I think he’s so selfish with the way he goes about it and he’s costing his team from that point of view.”

West Coast Eagles coach Andrew McQualter also put Reid on notice in his post-match press conference after the game.

“I love the way he goes about it, and I’ll say that continuously because if you have all the players being as competitive as he is, you’re on the right track, but he clearly crossed a line too many times tonight,” McQualter added.

I’ve had that chat with Harley Reid, and he knows it, and he’s going to play up to that line every single week, and that's where we want him, and we want it to be a dance with the line that he doesn't step over.”

The bottom-placed Eagles will take on second-last Richmond at home, which should be a winnable match for the Western Australian team.
