Joe Daniher won’t be making a shock AFL comeback, despite rival clubs testing the waters amid a shallow key forward market.

The Brisbane premiership hero has been the subject of recent speculation, with reports linking him to a potential return via the Sydney Swans. But according to Midweek Tackle’s Jon Ralph, the 30-year-old remains firmly retired.

“He’s not making a shock comeback,” Ralph said.

“The market is so thin that clubs are asking about him. He’s been linked to Sydney in the last week or two — they were the club that was really interested in him initially, and then he found his way to Brisbane.”

Well set up post-footy

Daniher retired following Brisbane’s 2024 premiership triumph, bowing out with one of the most consistent seasons of his career.

With interest from Sydney reportedly resurfacing, some had wondered whether the Lions star might consider a return, especially with clubs like the Swans also sounding out other targets like Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

But Ralph poured cold water on the idea.

“Sydney’s asking everyone, including Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, but Daniher is really well set up financially, he’s not interested in the money,” he said.

“I think if he was, 1% chance, he’d come back to Brisbane anyway. People close to him say he’s 0% chance — he’s got businesses to interest him as well.”

With that, the Daniher comeback dream appears well and truly shelved.
