The Western Bulldogs have shown interest in Fremantle midfielder Neil Erasmus, who is yet to commit his future beyond 2024. The 20-year-old remains out of contract, and while the Dockers are eager to keep him, clubs are beginning to test the waters.

According to AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich, the Bulldogs are among those monitoring Erasmus closely, viewing him as a potential long-term addition to their midfield group.

Despite being taken at pick 10 in the 2021 draft, Erasmus has found consistent senior opportunities hard to come by at Fremantle, playing just 33 games in four seasons.

Bulldogs planning for post-Liberatore era

The Dogs appear to be thinking ahead, particularly with veteran midfielders Tom Liberatore and Adam Treloar approaching the twilight of their careers.

While nothing is advanced, interest in Erasmus reflects a desire to future-proof the midfield with players who have upside but remain undervalued at their current clubs.

Gabelich reports that Fremantle are “keen to retain the Subiaco product and is working on a fresh extension,” but the 20-year-old is “weighing up his options.” The West Coast Eagles are also believed to be eyeing midfield reinforcements and have cast their net wide in search of opportunity-starved talent.

Erasmus has played 10 senior games so far this season.
