Geelong are preparing to make a serious play for Harley Reid, Zak Butters and Luke Jackson, with club CEO Steve Hocking revealing the Cats have room in their cap for two more stars over the coming seasons.

Speaking on 7News, Mitch Cleary reported that Reid and Butters sit at the top of Geelong’s wishlist.

Both are contracted through 2026, meaning a full-scale pursuit is more likely next year.

“We think big initially”: Scott on Cats’ strategy

“They’re good names to be linked to,” coach Chris Scott said on Channel 7. “When we lose Patrick (Dangerfield) at some point and Jeremy Cameron, there’d be a bit of room there... I certainly know that we can be in the market.”

Scott added that the club’s older list profile naturally creates flexibility, with several high-salary players nearing the end of their careers.

Fremantle ruckman Luke Jackson is another name Geelong are quietly watching. While under contract until 2029, his long-term future in Western Australia remains uncertain. His partner, Kelsey Browne, has family near Geelong, further fueling light speculation.

“I want to put this on the table early; the chances of him getting to Geelong are probably slim,” Trades podcast’s Sam McClure said. “But if he made it known he wants to play for Geelong, then it changes the conversation a little bit.”

Melbourne are tipped to lead the chase if Jackson seeks a move, but with cap space and ambition, the Cats are firmly in the mix.
