Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin says he won’t be distracted by a death threat made against him on social media, choosing instead to focus on helping his side recover after their implosion against St Kilda.

The message, posted by a troll account on X following the Demons’ loss after the siren, was investigated by the AFL’s Integrity Unit and is now in the hands of Victoria Police. While Goodwin acknowledged the seriousness of the hoax, he remained firm in his resolve not to let it consume him.

“You clearly hear about it … your family hears about it, that’s for sure,” Goodwin said. “That’s in the hands of the AFL and the police … clearly, we don’t want to see that in our game, but I don’t want to make that the focus of today.”

Goodwin: 'I feel incredibly supported'

The coach fronted a scheduled board meeting this week after Melbourne’s extraordinary collapse, blowing a 46-point lead at three-quarter time, but said his position wasn’t under threat.

“We’re all very aligned about the process of where we need to go to, what we need to create success,” he said. “I feel incredibly supported by the board, I have for nine years.”

He added that the club’s transitional phase had proven more turbulent than expected but remained confident the build was on track.

“Our fans, our supporters and our players are hurting because of the results,” he said. “We’re really clear and really confident about the build and where we’re going with that; those results will turn.”
