New Brisbane Lions star Logan Morris rejected a big-money deal with Melbourne to continue his stunning career progression in the north.

The 20-year-old key forward, who was a teenager at the start of last month, is the youngest player to kick five-plus goals in consecutive weeks since Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd in 1997.

Morris kicked a bag of five goals last Friday night as the Lions defeated Geelong at GMHBA Stadium for the first time in 22 years, while he also nabbed five majors the week before against GWS.

But the 191cm key forward had a decision to make earlier this year with the Demons offering him a big-money deal to return to Victoria.

Melbourne have been looking for a spearhead in their forward line with the likes of Jacob van Rooyen, Harry Petty and Matthew Jefferson yet to make the role their own.

However, premiership player Morris saw an opportunity to excel in a Lions forward line that was dealing with the retirement of Joe Daniher.

"Melbourne had a massive crack at Logan Morris … He’s turned down the Demons overtures and the cash that was on offer and he’s staying up north because he knows without Joe Daniher there’s a huge role," journalist Jay Clark said on Fox Footy.

Morris has kicked 30 goals in 14 games this season, including the two bags of five and four against the Bulldogs among games with multiple goals on nine occasions.

Being slightly shorter than what is perceived to be the height of a marquee key forward, Morris slipped to pick 31 in the 2023 draft, with several key forwards including Jed Walter, Daniel Curtin, Ethan Read, Nate Caddy, Jordan Croft and Archer Reid being selected ahead of him.

Morris won't be able to kick another five goals this week - as Brisbane have their bye - but he will return to action in Round 17 against Port Adelaide at the Gabba.
