Jack Silvagni linked with shock move to Carlton’s arch-rival image

Jack Silvagni’s potential move to bitter rivals Collingwood is reportedly gaining serious traction, with fresh claims suggesting the unthinkable switch is now closer to happening than ever before.

Still unsigned by Carlton for 2025, the 27-year-old forward, who qualifies as an unrestricted free agent, has been linked with the Magpies as they seek defensive depth heading into next season. And while initial speculation was brushed off as unlikely, respected journalist Sam McClure believes the tide is turning rapidly.

“I tell you what, I think it’s moving closer to a reality than it was, say, 48 hours ago,” McClure told 3AW.

“I think things are moving pretty quickly in this space. When I first read the story, I thought it was fanciful that a Silvagni would end up playing in black and white stripes, such is the family tradition that that name is etched into Navy Blue with.”

Pies may push harder with extra year

Carlton is understood to have offered Silvagni a four-year contract extension, though rival clubs may yet test the Blues’ resolve with longer and more lucrative deals.

Essendon great Matthew Lloyd said he wouldn’t be surprised if Collingwood sweetened their bid to get it over the line.

“I see both sides,” Lloyd said. “I think Carlton are entitled just to offer him four years, and if Collingwood need to prise him out of there, five years is often what you just have to do.”
