Gold Coast have turned their attention to a pair of high-impact Collingwood forwards, with veteran Jamie Elliott and the hard-hitting Beau McCreery both being closely tracked ahead of the 2025 trade period.

Elliott, 32, is out of contract and has yet to commit to a two-year extension from the Magpies. His standout form this season has only heightened interest, and according to SEN’s Sam Edmund, the Suns are overseeing his situation, especially given the Queensland links in Elliott’s past.

“There is a chance Elliott’s career-best season could be his last at Collingwood,” Edmund said. “The Suns are holding some appeal for the (out-of-contract) forward; he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, so that he could move north.”

“He had a good look at Brisbane (in 2022) ... his family is still there (and) he spent a lot of his childhood in Queensland. There is no doubt that they hold some appeal for him.”

McCreery interest adds another layer to Suns’ strategy

While Elliott could walk as a free agent, any move for McCreery would be more complicated. The 24-year-old is signed until 2027 but remains a target in what Fox Footy’s Jon Ralph described as an “aggressive” push from the Suns.

“Beau McCreery is being heavily scouted by rival clubs. He’s contracted until 2027, Collingwood will say he’s going nowhere (but) Gold Coast right now is a club that’s being aggressive,” Ralph said.

With Izak Rankine long gone and the Suns still seeking a like-for-like replacement, both players offer different styles but similar value. Whether the club can prise either of them out remains to be seen, but interest, clearly, is growing.
