Dayne Zorko comments on Joe Daniher's potential comeback image

Former Brisbane Lions captain Dayne Zorko has weighed in on the rumours surrounding recently retired Premiership-winning forward, Joe Daniher.

Brisbane’s leading goal kicker from a year ago has been the subject of comeback rumours for several weeks, with a shock move to the Sydney Swans doing the rounds as a handful of clubs chase key forwards on the market.

Talking on radio before the Lions’ clash against Carlton on Thursday night, Zorko put any thoughts of a Big Joe comeback to bed.

“There was a little bit of speculation about Joey coming back, but after working extremely closely with him last year and what he was able to achieve in that Grand Final, I certainly don’t think we’ll be seeing Joe Daniher again,” Zorko told 3AW.

“I don’t even know if he’ll play local football again, to be honest. He’s very much enjoying retirement life and so he should.”

Daniher has reportedly been busy with business ventures while currently traveling around Portugal and Spain.

Zorko’s comments echo what Chris Fagan said last week; the Lions coach basically putting a solid line through any chance of a Daniher return, especially with another club.

“I’m nearly 100 per cent sure, 99.99 per cent sure,” Fagan said when asked about Daniher maybe heading south to restart his career.

“Joe is enjoying life at the moment and the other thing I’d be confident with is if he did, he would play with us.”

Although the Lions would love to have Daniher’s big body back in their forward line, the reigning premiers haven’t missed a beat this season, averaging a tick over 13 goals a game.
