Carlton have continued to cull their midfield depth with Jack Carroll a surprise delisting among three players axed.

With Matt Kennedy joining the Bulldogs during AFL Trade Period, the Blues have decided to cut Carroll, who played 15 games in 2024.

Alongside Carroll, Sam Durdin and Matt Carroll were also delisted by the club.

AFL TRADE AND DRAFT NEWS:

The reduction in midfield numbers comes ahead of Carlton having pick three in the AFL National Draft.

It is expected the Blues will select one of Finn O'Sullivan, Jagga Smith or Sam Lalor with that selection, with the three rated as the best midfielders in the draft outside of Brisbane father-son selection Levi Ashcroft.

While it has been confirmed Jack Carroll won't be at Carlton next season, list boss Nick Austin suggested Matt Carroll and Durdin could return as Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) rookies.

“Sam and Matt had their challenges with injury this year but we have admired their resilience to keep fronting up," Austin said.

"While both players have not been offered new playing contracts to this point, they have both been invited to train with the squad and push for a spot on the playing list during the upcoming pre-season."

Carlton will be hoping experienced midfielder Adam Cerra remains fit in regards to their thin midfield stocks in 2025, with the ex-Docker managing only 13 games because of soft-tissue injuries.
