​The AFL’s willingness to comply with its own drug code and reveal the names of players on two or three strikes is under question, with one senior footballer anonymously sitting out of the game for an extended period with an ‘injury’ no-one saw occur.

Insiders will know whether it’s a final strike soon, as he may announce a ‘shock’ retirement before the trade period gets under way. 

What will have League bosses on edge is that this guy’s a little unhinged, has a love of publicity and a tendency to stir things up a bit. 

It wouldn’t surprise if he outs himself in a book or high-exposure interview first chance he gets, which will lead to huge embarrassment and consequences for the League over not upholding its own rules.

From what we hear, if this player does retire he may already have a cushy AFL overseas ambassadorial role in place, somewhere sunny a long, long way away.
