The Sydney Swans remain firmly in the frame to land Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, with two leading AFL journalists saying the club is “still very much in the mix” to secure the out-of-contract Western Bulldogs forward next year.
Speaking on SEN, Tom Morris and Cal Twomey both acknowledged the complexity surrounding Ugle-Hagan’s future, given his extended absence from the game this season due to personal issues. But they agreed that Sydney’s need for a key forward and their sustained interest makes them a genuine contender.
“This is a delicate one for off-field reasons, but there’s also a football component here. I think the Sydney Swans are still very much in the mix for Jamarra, they’re looking for a key forward,” said Morris.
“A lot of this depends on what state of mind and how Jamarra is feeling, and whether he believes he can move outside of Victoria. What he’s worth is a really interesting point, though. At the moment, it’s really hard to put a number on it.”

Fitness and future both unclear
Ugle-Hagan has not played a game in 2025, instead stepping away from football to focus on his mental wellbeing. He recently spent time at a health retreat in northern New South Wales, aiming to reset both personally and professionally.
Twomey said that while Sydney’s interest is no secret, there’s still plenty to resolve before any move materialises.
“It’s one we’ll keep following. The Swans are clearly in the market for a key forward. I think that’s probably the way, if I was going to call it at the moment, where I’d be looking, but still a bit to go as well,” he said.
“The contract status adds some complexity to it, too, given he’s on a very good deal for next year. There’s a bit to play out.”
Ugle-Hagan has played 67 games for the Bulldogs, kicking 103 goals since being taken with the number one pick in the 2020 draft.
