AFL Milestone Men: Gold Coast veterans set new club record amidst finals push image

Suns veterans David Swallow and Touk Miller will become the first pair of Gold Coast teammates to play 150 games together when they line up this week against the Fremantle Dockers.

The record comes as Gold Coast looks to make the top eight for the first time in their history, thanks to the coming of age of their first-round draft picks and the continued form of their new recruits.

DAVID SWALLOW

A foundational player from the Suns first year in the comp back in 2011, Swallow is the club games record holder having lined up 243 times and will look to be the first Sun to play 250 games later this season.

The 32-year-old has the unenviable stat of being the AFL player to have played the most games over their career without ever reaching a final, and the only active player to have played a premiership match at 22 different venues.

Having only lined up in three matches so far this year thanks to a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury sustained in the pre-season, Swallow has had a quiet start, averaging just 6.33 disposals and kicking two goals since his return.

The final inaugural player left on the Suns list, and with his form steadily declining each year since 2021, Swallow might see this year as his last chance to finally step out on the field in September.

TOUK MILLER

Almost a pro-cricketer before he turned his attention to football, Miller is another player in the 200-games club to have never played a final, after being picked at No. 29 in the 2014 draft.

The two-time All-Australian is enjoying another stellar year for the Suns, averaging 26.30 possessions and 1.2 goals per game so far this year.

Passing the mantle of club captain over to Noah Anderson for the 2025 season seemingly hasn’t hurt his form, with Miller a key factor in Gold Coast's stunning rise up the ladder this year.

Spending more time forward this season has had a huge impact on the Suns goalkicking threat, with Miller aiding Ben King and Ben Long with 12 goals from 11 games this year, despite never kicking more than eight in a season previously.

The Suns currently sit third on the AFL ladder, but still have one game in hand on the rest of the top eight, and will be tied on points with Collingwood in top spot if they can pull off a win over an inconsistent Fremantle at People First Stadium on Saturday.

For Swallow and Miller, it’s a chance to reflect on a huge club milestone, but also to press on and claim that all important spot in September.
