Essendon injury crisis: More key position players go down leaving squad thin in talls image

Essendon's key position player injury crisis has worsened with two more talls set for extended stints on the sidelines.

Both Kyle Langford and Zach Reid came off injured and didn't return to the field during the Bombers' 23-point win against Richmond in Dreamtime on Friday night.

The new fitness issues comes with Essendon already having six talls sidelined, including Sam Draper (Achilles), Nick Bryan (knee), Tom Edwards (knee) and Lewis Hayes (knee) all ruled out for the season.

Star defender Jordan Ridley (hamstring) is out for the next seven weeks, while Harrison Jones (ankle) doesn't currently have a return timeline.

The severity of injuries to Langford and Reid is currently unknown but the initial prognosis doesn't look positive for the Bombers.

Langford appeared to hurt his quad, which is usually a 4-6 week injury, while Zach Reid's hamstring tightness could keep him out for a similar period as he has a history of problems in that area of his body.

On Reid, Essendon coach Brad Scott said: "With Reid, we are not even sure it is an injury. But when the medical staff say Reidy can almost sense something with his hamstring, we just have no choice at this stage of career - with his injury history.

Scott continued on Langford's injury: "Langford will need a scan. But when you feel your quad kicking, especially from outside 50, it's hard to believe he hasn't got a quad strain."

"We are more optimistic on Reid, but concerned about Langford."

The Bombers don't have their bye until Round 16, with four challenging matches on the horizon against Brisbane (Gabba), Carlton (MCG), Geelong (MCG) and Fremantle (Optus Stadium).
